Android One from Google

Why Google introduces Android One despite mass existence of android all over in mobile and smartphone segment? It is simple and clear, most of these android devices are built with open source in android operating system, which Google has never ever exclusive control of it and with the introduction of Android One of Google, it wants to captures chunks of market share now.

Android One is a close-source mobile operating system from Google. It is built with similar android experience. It built from core Linux version but it's coding are more closely looked at that Android other operating systems. Android used by various original equipment manufacturers (OEM) are considerably different that android used with Android One operating system. Android One of Google promises availability of stock android version with pure android experience.

So for informations about all these might sound confusing to readers. Android used by various OEMs are open source.

They use stock android codes to change the way the operating system looks. For example, Chinese manufacturer, Xiomi, uses open source android to create a look similar to the Apple operating system. They create smart phones which are fondly called as Apple of east but these are built on open source in android operating system.

Many indigenous manufacturers of India as well as China, take the help of open source nature of android operating system to build low cost smart phones and most of these phones are highly popular. Middle classes opt for these phones as most of these phones are bigger in sizes with brilliant graphical user interface from open source to android operating system.

Samsung takes the help of open source android to create and build Galaxy series of smart phones which are very popular. At that time, the only popular smart phone lines are from Apple but slowly with the lower price bracket, Samsung able to remove Apple from the number one position. Slowly, it also captured entire upper middle class mobile habits by introducing some good smart phones under 20,000 and 15,000 Indian bucks.

Is it a successful move on the part of Google to introduce Android One, but as per market estimates it does not appear to be so. It is clear that, most of Android One mobile operating system are introduced in the price bracket of 6000 Indian bucks but most of times, with open source android operating system being used mostly by original equipment manufacturers, their prices are comparatively on lower side than that of prices of Android One.

With open source Android, various original equipment manufacturers added their own versions of different applications of Google. Android for OEMs are offered for free to them from Google as it hopes to generate revenues from its own set of applications. Google’s revenue model deals with various forms of revenue generation from its Google search, Google Now, Google Play Newsstand, Google apps and so on.

Take an example; Samsung in its flagship Galaxy brands installs its own version of the application environment known as Galaxy Apps, and various similar utilities which are almost same as that of a similar set of applications which android installs by default.

What it does, it simply dilutes a set of revenue models which Google has been successfully generating and investing time and again. Then, Google changes clauses for OEMs to compulsory installation specified Google Applications. Then, considering future trend of competition. Google initiates closed source Android, known as Android One, which is predicted to be for low end mobile users, but it could not keep that price bracket extremely low.

Considering other OEMs through various e-commerce portals selling away smart phone devices much lower than Android One price bracket. It is an interesting competition considering. Benefits are reaching to the lower segment of the market in India and China. India has a large set of middle class people, who aspire for more secured life and a nice smart phone, which not only bring back twenty four hours of superior connectivity all the time to most users.

With brilliant affordable internet packages from various cell companies, people continuously strive for superior devices yet with lower price brackets. With Android One project Google was expecting to acquire more than 80 million Indian smart phone users, but still to date, it seems this has not been done yet. There are fierce market competitions where there is very little scope for smart pricing, yet, OEMS have to see what the trend of the market is and they would consider introducing various innovative mechanisms in order to pacify various processes of benefits.

There is a cut-throat competition within smart phone market where, original equipment manufacturers have to deal directly with various sub industries such as hardware companies and share some benefits with them which compels a direct business to business (B2B) relationships with them, which empowers them to install hard ware devices on smart phones cheaply. One such example of an installation of Dolby Digital music on Lenovo devices.

Generally, the cost of Dolby installation is on higher side, yet Lenovo is sending high end smart phones at a price bracket under 5000 Indian bucks. This is due to direct business to business relationships between original equipment manufacturers and hardware vendors. Android captures more than 80 percentages of mobile market shares all over. It is an intelligent concept where it is open source and OEMs are free to use it and install it on their own device. Marketing of android is different from marketing of Apple mobile operating system and Microsoft mobile operating system.

Mobile versions of Apple and Microsoft are closed source and only control by the respective hardware vendors. Any OEM would use android and for this it became platform independent operating system that became plus point for this operating system. Slowly, every other mobile manufacturer except Microsoft and Apple began to use this and it became a mass movement. In the end, Microsoft also releases one modified version of android on their selective mobile devices.

One bad side of this is that due to its platform independent quality most of the time, release of update cycles is dependent upon its manufacturers was most times, these are mixed with delays and wrong updates. With the introduction of Android One, Google promises delivery of stock android which is straight out of the box from Google lab.

It receives updates at particular intervals like all of its Nexus (from Google) and from time to time it also receive a completely new operating system and mostly the latest build from Google. Android One is a noble concept yet, giant like Google still struggling to hold their place in ever competing smart phone market segment. In the future, it would be interesting to note what would be the future of Android One be?
